Class Skills, Challenge mode and updated combat

Class Skills Are Here — And Combat Will Never Be The Same

You've seen the previews. You know something big is coming. Now it's time to understand exactly what it is — and why it changes everything about how you play Guild of Guardians.

Class Skills are coming on the 11th of March 2026. The Challenge game mode will be open and for the first time, the outcome of your battles depends not just on who you brought — but on what you do in the heat of the fight.

This isn't auto-battle. This is you, reading the room, making the call, and proving you've got the instincts to back it up.

What Are Class Skills?

Every class in Guild of Guardians has always had a role to play. Warriors absorb punishment. Rangers shred targets. Support Guardians keep the squad breathing. But until now, the battlefield never gave you the tools to truly own that role in the moment.

Class Skills change that permanently. They are active abilities you equip to your Guardians before battle and trigger yourself — manually, with precision timing — in the middle of combat. The screen pauses. You pick your target. You release. The skill fires.

No automation. No passive timing. Just you, reading a fight in real time, and acting at exactly the right moment.

Each season introduces a new set of skills tied to specific classes. Master them, rank on the leaderboard, complete the Mastery Track, and walk away with unique rewards.

Season 1: Three Classes, Three Skills

Season 1 puts the spotlight on Warriors, Rangers, and Support Guardians. Each brings one active skill into the arena. Learn what each one does, and more importantly, when to pull the trigger.

Table: Season 1's three active Class Skills — effects and the precise tactical moments they're built for.

Timing is everything. Each skill runs on a cooldown timer that begins counting down the moment battle starts. When the timer hits zero, the skill is ready. Swipe up on your Guardian's icon to enter targeting mode — pick your target, release, cast. The timer resets.

There's no cap on how many times you can cast in a single fight. But you have to earn each window.

Future seasons will see the available Class Skills get swapped out with others. Our first content goal is to work towards creating at least two unique skills per class before finalizing how often and frequently they rotate in and out.

Skill Cooldowns by Class

Not all skills charge at the same rate. Each class has its own cooldown timer, meaning different classes become available at different points in the fight — and knowing the order changes how you sequence your plays.

Table: Per-class skill cooldown timers. All skills start at max cooldown when the battle begins. Lower number = charges faster = available sooner and more frequently throughout the fight.

Support carrying the longest cooldown is intentional — Barrier is one of the most powerful defensive tools in Season 1. That extra build-up is the cost of casting something that can completely negate a boss's signature hit.

How Challenge Mode Works

Class Skills live inside Guild of Guardians' all-new Challenge game mode — a structured, competitive arena where your goal is simple: clear the content as fast as possible. Your time is your score. The global leaderboard is watching.

There are two modes running at all times.

Unranked — Unlimited daily attempts, no pressure on your leaderboard standing. This is your practice space and your chance to learn each skill before it goes competitive. Use it.

Ranked — Limited daily attempts. Every run is logged. Your time is recorded. Each ranked week your best run feeds into your Season Score — and the Season Score is what determines your final placement when the curtain comes down.

The Season 1 Schedule

Season 1 runs three weeks. Every ranked week is preceded by an Unranked week where that week's skill is already live to practice. Nobody goes into a ranked run cold.

Your Season Score is the sum of your best ranked times from Weeks 1, 2, and 3. There's no single redemption run — every ranked week matters. Drop one and you're fighting uphill for the rest of the season.

Challenge Chests: The Reward That Evolves

Every day in Ranked mode, there's a Bonus Goal to chase — usually a speed clear or a precision objective. Hit it and you earn a Challenge Key. Keys open Challenge Chests.

What makes chests special is the upgrade sequence. Every opening triggers a live rarity climb — the chest morphs through tiers before locking in your reward. The higher it climbs, the better what's inside.

Table: Challenge Chest rarity tiers with upgrade probabilities and reward quantities. Every chest also awards a fixed Orb Select (your choice of class) regardless of rarity tier.

Two currencies come out of these chests: Class Orbs and Class Essence. Both are required to advance your Mastery Track. Orbs drop regularly across all tiers. Essence becomes a guaranteed reward at higher rarities — making every chest opening a moment worth watching all the way through.

Forge Your Legacy — Mastery Tracks & Seasonal Badges

Every active skill has a Mastery Track tied to it. Progress it by investing Class Orbs and Essence.

As we continue working on the Mastery Tracks you can expect to see things like “Mastery Quests, Mastery Badges, New Awakening resources, and more!”

The Battlefield Has Changed — Are You Ready?

Class Skills aren't a passive roster upgrade. They are a mechanic built entirely around you — your timing, your reads, your ability to act in the middle of a fight that's already in motion.

Season 1 gives you three tools. Taunt to blunt the enemy's damage. Hunters Mark to direct your team's fury. Barrier to protect the Guardian who cannot afford to fall. Master all three across four weeks, climb the leaderboard, build your Mastery, and claim the badge that proves you were here when it all began.

Keep an eye open for more info about how we plan to evolve the feature moving forward and improve tactical gameplay experiences in other parts of the game!

Available March 11th, 2026.

FAQ

  1. How can I access Class Skills and the new Challenges?
    1. Once your Commander Level has reached at least level 20 you can find Class Skills in the [Game Modes] menu on the Haven screen.
  2. How do I use the new Class Skills?
    1. First, make sure you are using the seasons highlighted classes in your team setup. (Eg. Season 7's Classes are Tank, Ranger, and Support. Other Classes won't have available Class Skills)
    2. Second, you will notice new UI on the Guardian portraits during Challenge battles. Each Class Skill has a cooldown that, when completed, makes the skill available to be cast.
    3. To cast a Class Skill you only need to swipe up on the Guardian portrait to enter the targeting flow. From there you tap and hold to select the target of your skill (an enemy or an ally). When you are satisfied with your target you need only stop holding your finger down to cast.
  3. Are Class Skills usable outside of the new Challenges?
    1. Currently no, but the team is very interested in figuring out more ways to bring tactical combat into other parts of the game. Keep an eye out for more info at a later date
  4. How do the new Challenge Leaderboards work?
    1. Very similar to Speedrun Abyss, but we have weekly and seasonal leaderboards here.
    2. Each week the Ranked Challenge will cycle to one of the three chosen classes. Weekly leaderboards rank players based on how fast they can complete the Ranked Challenge for that week.
    3. The Seasonal Leaderboards take the cumulative time from all 3 Ranked weeks and generate a "seasonal leaderboard." The players with the lowest times rank higher.
  5. What are the rewards I can get from Class Challenges?
    1. Class Chest Keys - Use these to open the Class Chest found in the Challenge menu
    2. Class Orbs - A new resource found primarily within the Class Chest. Used in the Class Mastery system
    3. Class Essence - A new rare resource found primarily within the Class Chest. Used in the Class Mastery system
